HOOPERS COURSES

HOOPERS mixed class

Mixed class for new (level 1) and experienced (level 2) teams.

Each team is a one-handler and one-dog partnership. Teams work together over four classes to build a training relationship based on positive reinforcement-based techniques. With a focus on skills and handling, teams take turns in the training area with the instructor.
The course syllabus is sent out to participants after receipt of full course payment. We cover about half of the learning objectives over four classes. It takes eight classes (two short courses) to go through all level 1 or level 2 skills, handling and obstacle learning objectives.

Prerequisites

There are no behaviour training or dog sports requirements for HOOPERS, however, your dog having a reasonable recall (at least 60% of the time) and responsiveness to their name is a good starting point. As only 1 team is in the arena for training at any time, your dog will need to be crated (in a crate supplied by you) or in your vehicle unless it is your turn in the arena.

Hoopers is designed to be accessible to all dogs and handlers, including dogs and handlers with limited mobility. Training equipment consists of low-impact obstacles and open, flowing courses.

HOOPERS 3

WHEN: Mid 2024

Progressing from the HOOPERS 2 course into the first of two 4-week courses, covering the Hoopers Level 3 Learning Objectives.

We cover about half of the learning objectives over four classes. It takes eight classes (two short courses) to go through all level 3 skills, handling and obstacle learning objectives. The course syllabus is sent out to participants after receipt of full course payment.

Prerequisites

Completion of HOOPERS 2 or equivalent course.

HOOPERS 4

WHEN: Mid 2024

Progressing from the HOOPERS 3 course into the first of two 4-week courses, covering the Hoopers Level 4 Learning Objectives.

We cover about half of the learning objectives over four classes. It takes eight classes (two short courses) to go through all level 4 skills, handling and obstacle learning objectives. The course syllabus is sent out to participants after receipt of full course payment.

  • HOOPERS 1 - 4 costs $200 for each four-week course.

  • Each class has a maximum of 4 dog-handler teams.

  • When it is not your team’s turn, your dog will have to be safely crated or in your vehicle. If you have any questions on how to get your dog comfortable with this set-up, please reach out for training advice and assistance.

  • All CANINE HOOPERS classes are held at an indoor horse arena in Pialligo ACT.
